Shareholder Elizabeth Quinn and Senior Attorney Steve Hamrick represented Trow & Rahal on May 2 at the annual French-American Business Summit, a B2B event that was organized – under the High Patronage of the Ambassador of France to the United States – by the French-American Chamber of Commerce (FACC-DC) in Washington, D.C., whose mission is to advance fruitful business relationships for its members and support bilateral trade. Steve is a Director of the FACC-DC. On May 1, Steve attended an exclusive pre-Summit reception at the French Ambassador's Residence. He is shown here at the Ambassador's Residence with Sefa Mawuli, Managing Partner and Financial Planner at Pavlov Financial Planning; and someone who bears a striking resemblance to the Marquis de Lafayette.

Now that the USCIS has increased most of its filing fees for immigration petitions and applications, are you curious to see whether we will see an improvement in processing times? We are. We do have to commend the USCIS for improving the process times for N-400 cases already; it was reported that the median processing time is now 6.1 (down from 10.5 months). But that was before the increase in fees. The USCIS rationale for increasing filing fees was to address operational and financial challenges, one of them being the lengthening processing times. We are hopeful as we are already seeing much faster processing times when cases are filed online such as Form I-90, N-400 and others. Decreasing processing times will decrease the uncertainty of cases and the anxiety that goes along with it. #ThursdayThoughts #ImmigrationLaw #USCIS

WOW: Perseverance and creativity pays off in immigration! We first filed an O-1A for a client who owned music studios and also a musician for the “business” of music. USCIS didn’t get it and issues huge RFE. We withdrew the O-1A. We decided instead to file as O-1B as musician, with the newly purchased studio in the United States as the petitioner. We received an RFE, but only on the terms of employment as USCIS was confused again and asked for an itinerary. We responded with clarity that it was for employment to work at the studio and as a musician to promote the studio. We received notice of approval yesterday! Here’s to a very happy client who can now come to the United States to pursue his business in music. #ImmigrationLaw #USCIS #immigration #WednesdayWow #Success

Today’s immigration tip: Please contact your attorney before any travel but especially if you were selected in the H-1B cap and are filing an H-1B cap petition. If a person travels while their change of status to H-1B is pending, then they abandon their request for a change of status. They need to wait until the petition is approved. They can use premium processing for this. If a person holds F-1 status, they may be able to travel after the H-1B cap petition is approved and before the start date on the approval notice, but they must have all of their paper work in order. Please contact your attorney before any travel if you were selected in the H-1B cap. It is important! #travel #H1Bcapgap #immigrationlaw

Fun Fact Friday with Trow & Rahal! Did you know? The United States has a long history of immigration laws, but did you know that the first federal law to regulate immigration was the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882? This landmark legislation prohibited the immigration of Chinese laborers and marked the first time that the U.S. government restricted immigration based on nationality. Despite this dark chapter in immigration history, the United States has since become a country that welcomes immigrants. At T&R, we are passionate about helping immigrants live the American dream. Stay tuned every Friday for more fascinating facts about immigration law! Have a fantastic weekend, everyone! #FunFactFriday #TrowAndRahal #ImmigrationHistory #Diversity #Inclusion
