FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DECEMBER 19, 2018 MONTGOMERY COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE STATEMENT ON THE SIGNING OF H.R. 6330 (SMALL BUSINESS RUNWAY EXTENSION ACT OF 2018) ROCKVILLE, MD, December 19, 2018 – On Monday, December 17, 2018, the President signed the Small Business Runway Extension Act of 2018 (HR 6330) into law. This bipartisan legislation – spearheaded by the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) GovConNet Council – lengthens the time by which the U.S. Small Business Administration measures business size through revenue from the average of the past three years to the average of the past five years. This modification is designed to reduce the impact of rapidgrowth years, which may prematurely eject a small business out of their size standard. “This law will give small companies more runway to transition from small to midsize in the federal marketplace,” said MCCC Executive Vice President Barbara Ashe. “While MCCC’s GovConNet Council and our advocacy team worked diligently to get this bill passed, our work is not done. Our Mid-Size Initiative Coalition has a number of policies and regulations we’re examining, and we look forward to working with our new Congress to continue improving upon the pathway to growth for midsize companies.” MCCC thanks U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) for his leadership on this bill, House sponsors Rep. Steve Knight (R-CA) and Rep. Yvette Clark (D-NY), House and Senate Small Business Committee leadership, the MCCC GovConNet Council – in particular Steve Ramaley of Miles &Stockbridge, P.C. and Lisa Firestone of Managed Care Advisors, Inc. for testifying before Congress in support of the bill – and our partners at Bloomberg Government. MCCC hosts an annual Procurement Conference that connects federal, state, and local government agencies and officials with government contractors and professionals. The 2019 Pathway to Growth Procurement Conference is being held on Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Universities at Shady Grove.
