Join the MCCC Government Relations Committee for its next virtual meeting on October 1 at 8:30 a.m. This meeting continues the Committee’s candidate series featuring individuals who recently won their primary elections. The featured guest will be Esther Wells, the Republican nominee for County Executive.

All Chamber members are invited to attend, meet and learn more about the community’s next generation of elected leaders, and engage in the Chamber’s advocacy efforts ahead of the November 3 general election.

The Government Relations Committee meets weekly during the Maryland General Assembly legislative session and monthly during the interim period. These meetings provide Chamber members with opportunities to learn about, discuss, and engage in a wide range of policy issues affecting the regional business community.

Please join the Chamber's Infrastructure and Land Use Committee for a special discussion featuring Kelly Schulz, Chief Executive Officer of the Maryland Tech Council. Kelly leads the Tech Council's Data Center Alliance of Maryland, a coalition of business, community, and industry partners that advocates for the economic, fiscal, and technological benefits of data center growth across the state.

Data center development has emerged as one of the most significant land use and economic development issues facing Montgomery County and communities nationwide. As demand for digital infrastructure continues to expand, policymakers, businesses, and residents are grappling with important questions about how and where this growth should occur.

Topics of discussion will include:

The economic and fiscal impact of data center development
Balancing growth with community interests and priorities
Growing opposition to data center projects and the concerns driving it
Legal and policy considerations surrounding data center development moratoria
The current state of data center development at the local and state levels
Montgomery County's moratorium and regulatory efforts

Speakers: Ash Shetty, Director, Chief Procurement Officer, & Grace Denno, Chief, Division of Business Relations and Compliance, Montgomery County

Ash Shetty is the Chief Procurement Officer and Director of the Montgomery County Office of Procurement. He is an expert in procurement process improvement, procurement organizational design and procurement technology planning. Since taking on the role in April 2019, Ash has strived to instill more transparency, efficiency, collaboration, and empathy in the Office of Procurement via process improvement, increased accountability, and technology adoption. Ash and his team have won numerous prestigious local and national awards for their recent efforts.

Grace Denno is the Chief of Montgomery County Government MD Division of Business Relations and Compliance (DBRC) in the Office of Procurement. The DBRC is directly responsible for developing legislation and policies that aid the growth and success of Small, Minority, Female and Disabled Persons Owned Businesses. The DBRC administers the County’s socio-economic and business compliance programs including the:

• Local, Small Business Reserve Program (LSBRP)
• Local Business Preference Program (LBPP)
• Minority, Female and Disabled Persons Owned Business Program (MFD)

• Prevailing Wage Law
